TypePad is essentially holding my old URL hostage by refusing to set up 301 permanent redirects to my new blog location

Hey Emily,
Wow… I’m glad I didn’t do anything with TypePad! sheesh! Well, good news is you’re out of it, and probably going to get a lot more out of this anyway. Don’t worry about it – I’ll point my sites to ya before you take down the typepad site.
Thanks Stuart — I’m sure enjoying using WordPress a whole lot more than TypePad!
I will say that I’m sure missing all of my google traffic – it went from almost a thousand a day to a lowly 19 — hope it isn’t long before google finds my new location and starts sending more visitors my way even without the 301 redirects… (and I still can’t believe that TypePad refuses to let me set up 301 permanent redirects for my site – especially when I’m paying for their service!! All the more reason why it’s critical than anyone using a hosted blogging service only do so using their own domain name!)
Appreciate your linking to my new, permanent URL — hope others will do the same!!
Thanks for taking the time to manually put in the redirects, so that I could find the new blog. I was considering switching from Typepad, and wanted to check out the options – obviously, this is going to be a lot harder than I want.
@thomasinac
You’re welcome. Yes, it’s a royal pain – but I think (hope) in the long run it will have been worth the effort..
In the meantime, can everyone please update their links to How to Blog with the new URL?? THANKS
Can you modify the template to issue a 301 redirect? Is it php (or dynamically generated) like WordPress?
