How to disable comments so people are prevented from commenting on your posts in WordPress

In response to a recent question one viewer emailed me:

Have something to say and don’t want anyone commenting on it? Well, if you’re using WordPress it’s super easy to turn off the commenting system on your blog. Here’s how to disable comments on your posts:

• Login to your wordpress installation
• Click Options
• On the submenu, click Discussion
• Uncheck the box that says ‘Allow people to post comments on the article’
• Click the button at the bottom of the page that says ‘Update Options’

Tada – now your posts are yours and yours alone, and if folks want to comment on them they can do it elsewhere.
