The last couple of times that I tried to update my wordpress theme list, when I click ‘Save’ (or Save and Continue Editing) there is a long wait after which I get presented with a blank page. Upon then checking the post it hasn’t been updated. This is driving me nuts as I have almost 100 new wordpress themes to add to the list! I am not using the TinyMCE editor, and instead using straight html code. When I try updating the post from blogjet, it comes back with an error message saying, “Error posting to blog: the xml-rpc server returned an empty resonse.”

What gives? I have no problem creating new posts. But the one post I need to edit the most frequently won’t let me update it!

Update: I found numerous posts about this problem in the wordpress support forums, but no real solutions. Of course, wordpress.org is currently taking another lunch break so I can’t link to them for ya at the moment. HOWEVER, on the plus side, I did finally get wordpress to allow me to update my theme list (made a few slight mods to the html for the page — really shouldn’t have made a difference and frankly I don’t know why it didn’t work and why it does now…I’m just glad its working finally!)

I had a similar problem when activating a plugin. Solved when upgraded to 2.1.3

    Hola!

    i loved it!

  4. Happens every once in a blue moon to me. What makes me more nuts is that I sometimes have to save several times before it will let me use the HTML editor.

I’ll bet you anything it’s because you are pinging ping-o-matic or another site under your “Update Services” on the Options -> Writing tab in the admin panel. If you take it out, replace it with another ping-site, or at least install the plugin that prevents repeated pings every time you edit a post (I can’t think of the name of it off the top of my head but a quick search would find it for you) your problems should go away. I’ve found that from time to time I have no problems at all and other times ping-o-matic has slowed my posting/editing down to a crawl!

Darcy hit the nail on the head I removed ping o matic along with some other pinging services and the blank page after post goes away.

You can’t install a theme if you have an account on wordpress.com. It’s only by installing wordpress (the software) on a server would you be able to do that… I know, I have the same complaint.

Sometimes, I wonder if blogger isn’t better than wordpress. You can play around with the css file, modify your theme easily on blogger unlike wordpress. You use to not be able to do any trackback but now that blogger has updated …

I edit a blog on blogger called critiquemyblog.blogspot and think this would be a great blog to critique to expose the readers to the other platforms like wordpress and the difficulties and tips you have to offer

I have this problem frequently. But I don’t worry. After all they are giving me a free service. I guess making it better will cost them.

  12. Used to have this issue all the time but it has disappeared since the domain was moved to a really powerful server that is barely ticking over!

I still use the pingomatic service without any issue, so the problem must lie in the Wordpress code for this functionality, which when combined with a loaded server results in all kinds of posting issues.
